Kid-friendly nail polish

When I had my daughter I couldn’t wait to paint her nails, but I was concerned about chemicals and searched for non-toxic, baby-safe products .

One of my favorites is Piggy Paint …Natural as Mud it’s non-toxic, odorless, kid friendly and made in the USA.

It comes in an array of fun colors. They also offer adorable gift sets of holiday colors…just perfect for a Christmas stocking stuffer.

Garanimals – 35 years later

My daughter Loren in her Garanimals,

I remember Garanimals as a kid…with their no-fail,  mix-n-match fashions.  They were just perfect for a matchy, perfectionist like me.

Well, just in time for the holiday season I have picked a couple of my favorites from a line of infant/toddler clothing, shoes, games & toys.

A boxed set of cozy pj’s that include a jersey top, plush pant & adorable plush toy — sizes up to 5t — $10. A new line of two-in-one board games that come in three versions — ages 3,4 and up — $8.

All items sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

For a nostalgic, budget-conscious mom like me, these items are sure to be included on my holiday shopping list this year.

To wear or not to wear…the furry vest

Jaclyn Smith faux fur vest from Kmart.

Okay so I’m still on the fence about this furry, fluffy trend that has resurfaced yet another season.

First some rules before I will even entertain the thought of this purchase:

1) Faux-fur only.
2) Nothing that resembles a wet, mangy dog.
3) The less bulky the better.
4) No overspending on this trend.

I personally would keep the look simple, simple, simple — and let the vest be the statement piece.

A couple on my wish list:

Scottsdale Fashion Week…

Today was media day at the W Hotel Scottsdale for the start of Scottsdale Fashion Week, a three-day event that unites up-and-coming designers with buyers.

Marketing Director MaryAnn Ortiz-Lieb and I headed in to check it out. After sitting in on a seminar we took to the patio to find three local, talented young ladies.

Asian stripes

I love to mix styles — so  I’m experimenting by mixing stripes with Asian-inspired jewelry and accessories. I pulled these looks from my own closet, just to give you an idea. For the cooler weather just add another layer.  I love the look — both sporty and exotic!

Make-up trend for the season…

Instead of the usual array of dark lip colors such as red, brown and plum for fall/winter – I’ll save that for my wardrobe and keep it light this season…Peach hued lips were my summer color pick this year, but I loved the look so much I decided I would bring it with me right into the fall/winter season.

Try it with darker, smoky eye make-up for a more dramatic look.

It compliments all skin tones, just find the shade that works best for you.

There are so many brands to choose from…I love two super inexpensive ones – INCOLOR by Jordana, Squeeze n’ Shine Super Shiny Tasty Lip Gloss in Peach Sand (yes – it tastes like peaches) and Wet n’ Wild lipstick, shade 903c . I found both under $3 each at Walgreens.

Give it a try!

Make your own leggings…

A great way to recycle tights — just cut off the feet and, viola! You have cute leggings to put under skirts, shorts or dresses.

I have used this trick for my 4-year-old daughter, but this is also one mom might want to try for herself.

Don’t worry if you don’t cut a perfectly straight line, they roll up a bit, so no one will ever know.

So cute — and so green!
